Several parts of your story resonate with me: parents who told you to "get a real job;" the fact that you like to work with your hands; and most importantly, acknowledging your true self in your mid-30s. I have finally admitted to myself that I will never be a career-oriented person in the traditional sense; that I will always need to pursue artistic endeavors more than office-related ones. It has been the most freeing realization of my life so far.
